Abilene Heritage Square is a transformative redevelopment project that breathes new life into the former Abilene High School campus, creating a dynamic cultural and educational hub for the region. Anchored by a new state-of-the-art Abilene Public Library, the reimagined campus will also include a restored 700-seat auditorium, the Spark Science Center, a steam-oriented museum for children, a gymnasium that is converted into a community event center, other community meeting spaces, and dedicated facilities for arts, youth programming, and lifelong learning. The project honors the rich history of the site and the prior students, while creating spaces that serve the future needs of Abilene’s residents.
The Projects Group was engaged in 2022 to serve as Program Manager and Owner’s Representative, leading the design and construction process from early planning through delivery. Our responsibilities included overseeing the architect and consultant teams, managing project milestones, and hiring a construction manager to bring the multi-building campus vision to life. Spanning five distinct phases—including the renovation of the historic academic building, construction of a new library, conversion of a former gymnasium into an event center, upgrades to the multipurpose building, and the creation of a new science museum—the project required careful coordination to preserve key historic features while seamlessly integrating modern infrastructure. TPG’s leadership helped align diverse stakeholders, manage scope and budget, and guide the project toward a unified, community-centered vision.
