    Job Summary:

    We are seeking a proactive Business Development Manager/Director to spearhead our expansion efforts, enhancing our client base and bolstering our market presence across the United States and more specifically in the Texas, New York and Florida regions. This pivotal role will be based in the New York office and will work closely with the leadership team across TPG’s offices nationally. 


    Target clients/sectors include a variety of cultural and institutional sectors, including museums, galleries, performing arts centers, botanical gardens, zoos, open space projects, educational institutions (both lower and higher education), and sacred spaces. The role demands a strategic vision, in-depth market research, and active engagement with potential clients and partners nationwide. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in business development, specifically within the construction or design industries, coupled with a passion for these diverse project sectors.


    This role underscores the importance of collaborative success and shared ownership values in alignment with our firm’s Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) structure. The Business Development Manager/Director will be instrumental in fostering an environment of mutual benefit and community engagement, which is crucial to our identity as an ESOP. The Marketing Coordinator will report directly to the Business Development Manager, ensuring a cohesive and aligned approach to market engagement and client relationship management, especially within our specialized sectors of cultural and institutional projects.


    Direct Reports: Marketing Coordinator (1 person)


    Salary Range: $120,000-$180,000, commensurate with experience and title.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Strategic Development:

    • Objective Setting: Develop and implement targeted business development strategies to promote our services and expand market share, with a focus on cultural and not-for-profit organization projects.

    • Strategy Execution: Execute strategies through actionable plans that leverage our unique capabilities in the cultural, institutional and not-for-profit organization sectors.

    2. Opportunity Cultivation:

    • Market Research: Conduct detailed market research to identify and target new business opportunities within our specialized fields and office locations.
    • Networking and Industry Presence: Enhance our visibility and engagement within the industry through proactive networking and participation in key events.
    • Industry Trends Monitoring: Stay informed about industry trends and competitive landscapes to capitalize on market opportunities.
    • Strategic Adjustments: Utilize market intelligence to make informed decisions and adjust strategies effectively in response to industry dynamics.

    3. Relationship Management:

    • Client Relationship Management: Support Leadership team in leveraging their professional networks to win new business; Build and sustain strong relationships with new and existing clients, ensuring ongoing collaboration and trust.
    • Client Interaction: Engage with potential clients and stakeholders to understand their needs and position our firm as the preferred partner.
    • Partner Engagement: Maintain productive partnerships that align with our strategic objectives and enhance project outcomes.

    4. Proposals, Fees, Contracts, and Negotiation:

    • Fee Proposals:  Develop fee proposals in collaboration with TPG’s leadership to win new projects
    • RFP Responses:  Review and oversee responses to Requests for Proposals developed by the Marketing Coordinator
    • Contract Negotiation: Strategically negotiate and close deals with the Management Team that support our company’s growth objectives and project goals.
    • Terms Optimization: Ensure deal terms are advantageous and align with our strategic and financial goals.

    5. Communications & Marketing:

    • Communications Planning:  In collaboration with the Marketing Coordinator, stay informed on upcoming project announcements to be sure TPG is prepared and planning for marketing/communications opportunities in advance.
    • Marketing Strategy Alignment: Direct efforts, collaborate closely with, and manage the Marketing Coordinator to ensure that marketing aligns with business development goals.
    • Campaign Development: Assist in the creation and refinement of marketing materials and campaigns, emphasizing our expertise in cultural, not-for-profit and institutional projects.
    • Presentation Skills: Craft and deliver compelling presentations that clearly communicate our services' value and distinct advantages.

    6. Strategic Planning Input:

    • Planning Contributions: Provide insights and strategies to shape our marketing and business initiatives during an annual or otherwise determined planning process.
    • Growth Strategies: Focus on actionable and measurable strategies that target growth within our specialized sectors and regions.

    7. Performance Reporting:

    • Reporting: Prepare quarterly performance reports to track the effectiveness of business development activities.
    • Outcome Analysis: Analyze outcomes to inform future business strategies and ensure alignment with industry standards and objectives.

    Qualifications and Professional Skills:

    • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Art History, Theater and Performance or a related field.
    • Experience Requirements: Minimum of 5 years of experience in business development, in the construction, architecture, design industries or cultural sector. Experience working with cultural and institutional projects preferred.
    • Networking Skills: Strong capabilities in networking and relationship building, essential for developing strategic partnerships at a national level.
    • Communication Proficiency: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strategic Skills: Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective business development strategies.
    • Motivation: Highly motivated individual with a drive to achieve business objectives in a competitive environment.
    • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CRM software and MS Office; Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign) preferred.
