Originally opened in 1929 as one of five Loew’s “Wonder Theatres,” Kings Theatre stood as a landmark of French Baroque design until closing its doors in 1977. After decades of vacancy, the City of New York led a transformative $94 million restoration to revive the 3,200-seat venue as a modern performance hall while preserving its historic grandeur. The project included extensive restoration of interior plasterwork, finishes, and architectural details, along with a new stage house, expanded backstage areas, and upgraded lighting, rigging, and mechanical systems. Reopened in 2015, the revitalized theatre now serves as a vibrant cultural anchor for Brooklyn—hosting concerts, theatrical productions, dance, and community events.

The Projects Group joined the project team in 2013 to provide Owner’s Representation during the construction phase. Our role focused on managing procurement and coordination of all owner-direct contracts, including fixed seating, theatrical lighting, stage rigging, and other specialized systems. Working closely with the City of New York, the design and construction teams, and performance venue consultants, TPG ensured seamless integration of theatrical infrastructure within the complex restoration and modernization process.
