The Fort Worth Zoo, established in 1909, is the oldest continuously operating zoo in Texas and consistently ranks among the top five zoos in the nation. Spanning 64 acres and home to more than 7,000 animals representing over 500 species, it welcomes more than one million visitors each year. Over the past 15 years, the Zoo has undergone a dramatic evolution—introducing eight new habitats and significantly expanding its role as a leader in conservation, education, and guest experience.
Since 2008, The Projects Group has served as the Zoo’s trusted Owner’s Representative, managing a series of phased capital improvements that enhanced animal welfare, guest amenities, and behind-the-scenes operations—all while maintaining daily visitor access. Our work spans projects of every scale, including the $22 million Museum of Living Art and the $100 million A Wilder Vision expansion, which introduced the African Savanna, Elephant Springs, and Predator Ridge habitats. Additional projects include the Crocodile Café & Education Building, Outdoor Learning Theater, Safari Splash, and the Toyota Children’s Ranch & Petting Corral. We’ve worked closely with Zoo leadership, design teams, and construction partners to ensure every element aligns with long-term institutional goals. From sustainable infrastructure and immersive educational venues to enriched environments for animals, each project reflects a shared commitment to excellence, stewardship, and community impact—enhancing the visitor experience while supporting the Zoo’s mission of conservation, education, and care for wildlife and habitat.
